Bishkek, April 12, 2021. / Kabar / . Chairwoman of Kyrgyzstan’s Central Elections Commission Nurzhan Shaildabekova provided information on the preliminary results of the constitutional referendum held on Sunday.
During a briefing in Bishkek, the chairwoman said that 1 million 59 thousand 476 voters, or 79.24% voted for the new draft of the Constitution and 1 million 82 thousand 533, or 13.66% - against.
Nurzhan Shaildabekova added that a referendum is considered valid if the turnout is 30% and 50 percent or more of the votes are received for a certain answer.
"The CEC provides these referendum figures based on data from automatic ballot box readers. At this point, all of the data from the PECs is being reviewed. All applications that have been received for the organization and conduct of the election are being reviewed. The results of the referendum will be tabulated after the manual count is completed. According to the law, the results will be summed up within 35 days," she said.
On April 11, Kyrgyzstan held the constitutional referendum along with local council elections.
2,483 polling stations were opened in Kyrgyzstan, as well as 48 ones abroad.
Over 30% of the total number of voters must vote in order to recognize the referendum valid.
A referendum to determine the form of government in Kyrgyzstan was held on Jan. 10 of this year, along with the early presidential elections. Then the presidential form of government was supported by 81.49 percent of voters. After that, a Constitutional Counsel was created, which developed a new draft of the Constitution.
