Over 80 cases of bride kidnapping registered in Kyrgyzstan since beginning of year

In Kyrgyzstan, 200 cases of crimes against family relations and interests of minors were registered during 4 months of 2021, Nurlan Ismailov, the deputy head of the Public Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country said during a roundtable meeting in Bishkek.

He added of these, 82 cases were registered under article on abduction with intent to marry.

"The largest number of bride kidnapping cases was recorded in Bishkek - 30. Only 3 out of all cases were referred to the court. Also, detention was applied to 8 defendants, 1 defendant is under house arrest,” Ismailov said.

The representative of the Internal Ministry noted 56 cases under this article were registered last year.

"In addition, 9 cases of kidnapping with the purpose of marriage with a person under 18 years old were recorded. Six cases were registered under the article of forcing a person to marry. 103 cases were registered under article about violation of legislation on marriage age during religious ceremonies, of which 18 cases were submitted to the court," Nurlan Ismailov concluded.
