Parliament Speaker Abdyldayev’s address to leaders of political parties

Bishkek, Oct. 9, 2020. /Kabar/. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Myktybek Abdyldayev made an appeal on Friday, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.

Addressing Kyrgyzstanis and leaders of political parties, the speaker noted that preliminary results of Oct. 5 parliamentary elections caused mass discontent of citizens and since then the situation in the country remains tense. Situation is extremely difficult.

“We believe that statement of President Jeenbekov about readiness to resign after stabilization of situation in the country is a positive shift. Now we face the task to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh as soon as possible, and thus to return the country to the legal field,” noted Abdyldayev.

He stressed the need to create conditions for the Parliament, so that it can work without pressure from various forces interested in promoting their candidates for the post of prime minister.

The Kyrgyz Parliament speaker asked leaders of political parties to conduct explanatory work among their supporters.

“At this stage, it is very important to hold a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh in conditions of safety of deputies and free expression of their positions. At the moment, the country faces a number of challenges - ensuring public order and safety of citizens, preparations for the winter period, revival of the state economy and preparation for the second wave of pandemic. All this depends on maintaining peace, stability and unity in our country. I ask each of you to unite, leaving your political ambitions, for the sake of the integrity of our country and peaceful life of our people,” Parliament Speaker Myktybek Abdyldayev concluded his appeal.

Following the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan, held last Sunday with the participation of 16 parties, supporters of political parties, which failed to win seats, organized protest actions in Bishkek demanding the annulment of the elections and claiming gross violations. Preliminary results showed that four parties crossed the 7 percent threshold to enter the parliament.

Kyrgyzstan's Central Election Commission on Tuesday annulled the results of the elections after clashes between police and protesters.

However, the protest actions, which have started in Kyrgyzstan on Monday, still going on.
