Parliament Speaker, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia discuss cooperation

Bishkek, Feb. 13, 2019. /Kabar/. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) Dastanbek Dzhumabekov received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Kyrgyzstan Abdurahman bin Saeed Al-Juma on Tuesday.

During the conversation, the sides discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation, in particular, inter-parliamentary interaction, political and trade and economic cooperation, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.

Dzhumabekov, noting with satisfaction that Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia are united by a common history and religion, stressed the importance of political contacts between Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia. "Exchange of visits at the highest and highest levels, as well as meetings between the deputies of the two countries contribute to the strengthening of our relations," he added.

Regarding inter-parliamentary interaction, the speaker noted the significant role of the work of friendship groups. “The Parliament is interested in establishing close ties between the parliamentary friendship groups of the two states,” he said, and stressed that the parliamentary friendship group on cooperation with Saudi Arabia is one of the largest groups.

Regarding trade and economic relations, Dzhumabekov noted that there is great unrealized potential. “Today, the trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia is about $ 1 million, and for us the priority is to increase its volume, as well as to attract investors from Saudi Arabia to the economy of Kyrgyzstan,” the speaker said and added that the Jogorku Kenesh is taking all measures to create favorable conditions for foreign investors.

The speaker also raised the issue of the implementation of three projects under the signed Grant Agreement for a total amount of $ 3.7 million. According to Dzhumabekov, it is necessary to take measures for the speedy implementation of these projects, which will result in the construction of a laboratory and quarantine zone ($ 1 million), equipping the Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation under the Ministry of Health ($ 1.5 million), procurement of equipment for two medical centers in the villages of Kara-Kuldja and Tyup and the tuberculosis center in Bishkek ($ 1.2 million).

In turn, Abdurahman bin Saeed Al-Juma said that Saudi Arabia aimed at further deepening friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and positively assessed inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries.

The ambassador informed the speaker on the three projects mentioned by him under the Grant Agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia in the amount of $ 3.7 million, in particular, he noted that negotiations had already been held with the relevant ministries and the parties were approaching the stage of direct implementation. As he assured, until the end of the year all the measures for the implementation of these projects will be carried out.

During the conversation, the diplomat also raised the issue of the visit of Chairman of the Majlis ash-Shura of Saudi Arabia Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh of Kyrgyzstan. He said that the Saudi side is interested in holding this visit in 2019.

In response, Dzhumabekov said that the Kyrgyz people are known for their hospitality and will be pleased to receive his Saudi counterpart.

In conclusion, the ambassador noted that all wishes and proposals of the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh to deepen the cooperation of the Kyrgyz Republic and the the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be taken into account.

Following the conversation, the speaker wished the interlocutor success in his future responsible mission for the development of the Kyrgyz-Saudi relations.
