Parliament Speaker Mamytov to act as President of Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Nov. 14, 2020. /Kabar/. Talant Mamytov will act as President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov said in his address on the occasion of resignation from the post of the acting president.

"Further, the duties of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with the Basic Law will be performed by the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh [Kyrgyz Parliament]," Zhaparov said.

He also stressed that he will suspend the prime minister's formal powers due his decision to run in the early presidential elections.

"In this regard, as I have previously stated, I have decided to step down as president of the country, as well as to suspend the formal powers of the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, and as an ordinary citizen I will participate in the upcoming presidential elections," Zhaparov noted.

A total of 62 citizens have submitted their documents to the Central Elections Commission of Kyrgyzstan for participation in the early presidential elections to be held on Jan. 10, 2021.
