Bishkek, Oct.15, 2024. /Kabar/. As part of an official visit to Turkmenistan, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Shakiev met with Chairperson of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the expansion of political-economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as the strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.
Speaker Shakiev congratulated his interlocutor on the Independence Day of Turkmenistan, as well as on the 300th anniversary of Turkmen poet and philosopher Makhtumkuli Fraghi.
The speaker dwelt on the ongoing work aimed at strengthening relations between the two fraternal nations with similar history, culture and spiritual values.
“Kyrgyzstan is always interested in building friendly and fraternal ties with Turkmenistan. Through the efforts of the leaders of the two countries, our partnership has reached a new level, cooperation based on mutual trust is actively developing,” Shakiev said.
In addition, the head of the Kyrgyz delegation touched upon the topic of trade and economic cooperation and emphasized that there are positive developments in this area.
“However, we have even more opportunities. For their realization we need to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Turkmen Joint Commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian cooperation,” he said.
Nurlanbek Shakiev emphasized the need to develop cooperation in the field of energy and tourism and also touched upon transport and transit issues. “Kyrgyzstan is interested in using the transit potential of Turkmenistan. On the other hand, the Turkmen side can actively use the transit potential of Kyrgyzstan for access to China and further to Southeast Asia,” he stressed.
In turn, Chairperson of the Turkmen Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova noted that the issue of strengthening relations between the brotherly nations is also very important for the Turkmen side and shared her proposals on the development of relations between the countries.
She expressed gratitude to Kyrgyzstan for supporting Turkmenistan at international platforms, including at the United Nations meetings.
Touching upon the topic of inter-parliamentary cooperation, Gulmanova emphasized the need to develop cooperation within the framework of sectoral committees, friendship groups and between women deputies.
