Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2021. / Kabar /. Parliamentary elections are being held in Kyrgyzstan today, Nov. 28.

Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of the country Nurzhan Shaildabekova said at a briefing on Sunday morning that the new composition of the Jogorku Kenesh will consist of 90 deputies and is elected for a term of 5 years under a mixed electoral system. Thus, 54 deputies are to be elected according to the proportional system in single electoral constituencies, while 36 deputies are to be elected from single-mandate constituencies on a majority basis.

She also said that 2,435 polling stations have been opened across the country at 8 a.m. Another 59 polling stations will be opened abroad in 29 countries, first was opened in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia.

The total number of voters in a single constituency is 3 million 703 thousand 420 voters. In single-mandate constituencies - 3 million 619 thousand 292 (excluding voters registered abroad).

The CEC accredited 736 international observers to monitor the voting process.

In total, 21 political parties were registered to participate in the elections, more than 280 candidates were registered in single-mandate constituencies.
