Parliamentary elections will be held in autumn: President Zhaparov

Bishkek, March 1, 2021. / Kabar /. Elections to the Jogorku Kenesh will be held this autumn, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said in an interview with Kazinform News Agency on the eve of his state visit to Kazakhstan.

"Local elections will be held soon. A fair referendum is scheduled to be held. A parliamentary elections will take place in autumn. Now we are establishing legality and justice. Of course, this cannot be done in one year. It takes 2-3 years to rectify the situation,” Zhaparov said.

After the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan held on Oct. 4 some political parties, who lost the elections, organized protests on Oct. 5 demanding to annul the election results. Clashes between police and protesters resulted in human losses (man, 19) and injures of 1000 citizens.

As a result, on Oct. 6 the Central Election Commission of the country cancelled the results of the elections, and then President Sooronbay Jeenbekov stepped down amid ongoing protests.
