Cholpon-Ata, Oct. 7. 2018. /Kabar/. The participants of the 3rd International Issyk-Kul Forum “Chyngyz Aitmatov and the Challenges of the Modernity”, made an appeal to world leaders and heads of state after a three-day discussion.
The Forum started in Bishkek on Friday, October 5, and then the dialogue platform was moved to the coast of Issyk-Kul. In the course of the sessions, over 130 writers, politicians, culturologists, people of art presented their visions and reports on the problems that Aitmatov reflected in his works.
All Forum participants called on the world to appreciate the values and spiritual heritage left by the writer and thinker. The preliminary draft of the appeal contains the following:
“The Third International Issyk-Kul Forum “Chyngyz Aitmatov and the Challenges of Modernity”, held in Cholpon-Ata from October 5 to 7, 2018, gathered intellectuals, figures of culture and science from 30 countries of the world. The Forum coincided with a significant date - the 90th anniversary of the birth of its founder, the great writer, humanist, Chyngyz Aitmatov.
The main topics of discussion at the Forum were global problems facing the modern world, threats that require the revision of many of the provisions and principles of the world order. We are witnessing a crisis of humanistic values, loss of cultural heritage and historical memory, spiritual impoverishment and local wars, ready to grow into even more large-scale and destructive conflicts. There are clashes, including on a religious basis; the sovereignty of peoples is being questioned, the foundations of harmonious coexistence of man with the environment are being eroded.
We, participants of the International Issyk-Kul Forum “Chyngyz Aitmatov and the Challenges of Modernity”, striving to contribute to the preservation and development of the ideas of the great humanist writer, thinker, state and public figure Chyngyz Aitmatov, recognizing that the problems raised in his work have a planetary significance and require the attention of the world community, we appeal to world leaders, heads of state, cultural and art workers to make every effort, aimed at:
- overcoming economic egoism and cultural isolationism in any of their forms and manifestations, because it will lead to the destruction of recognized international security institutions, the degradation of the highest values of humanism and humanism;
- supporting the dialogue between countries, faiths and cultures and eliminating the use of force to solve world problems;
- leave behind the language of mutual threats and power confrontation, since the policy of pressure, sanctions, unleashing trade and other wars, has passed all conceivable limits.
The International Issyk-Kul Forum is always a voice of reason, it is a dialogue and free exchange of opinions. “Survival through creativity” was the life-affirming formula of being proposed by the participants of the legendary Forum of 1986, convened at the initiative of Aitmatov and heard by the world community. These words today sound no less relevant, for they are dictated by concern for our common destiny.
Before the eyes of mankind:
completely destroyed cities and settlements, destroyed monuments of ancient culture,
insanity of religious radicalism, ready for any crime,
hundreds of millions of people suffering from hunger and disease, women and children, refugees abandoned to their fate,
melting glaciers, disappearing forests, expanding deserts, the death of entire species of flora and fauna,
oceans and rivers, utterly littered with plastic debris, which destroys the ecology of the planet ...
We need to stop. It's time to listen to the voice of those who spoke about all this and spoke more than once. One of them was the great son of the Kyrgyz people, a citizen of the world, a humanist thinker of a planetary scale, Chyngyz Aitmatov.
Addressing politicians, leaders of states, people of science and culture, we express the common conviction of the participants of the Issyk-Kul Forum, their unanimous wish:
- to support the efforts of all countries and organizations celebrating the 90th anniversary of Chyngyz Aitmatov in 2018 aimed at popularizing his ideas and views in modern conditions;
- to contribute to the important and fruitful initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic and the family members of Chyngyz Aitmatov to create an “International Aitmatov Institute” and a museum in the capital of the republic so that this structure becomes a permanent center that links all areas of Aitmatov's creative activity and life.
- to turn the International Issyk-Kul Forum into a permanent platform for dialogue and the development of mechanisms for the implementation of integrated international humanitarian programs and other projects.
