Passenger traffic at Kyrgyz airports down by 2.4 times due to COVID-19 pandemic

Bishkek, Jan. 27, 2021 /Kabar/. During the crisis year of 2020, Manas International Airport (MIA) OJSC served 1 million 517 thousand 936 passengers, 58.8% less than last year.

The press service of the airport said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to virtually closed borders, the flow of passengers on international flights was particularly affected, decreasing by 64.4%, to 882 thousand 403 passengers. Domestic airlines served 635 thousand 533 passengers, a drop of 47.3% compared to 2019.

- Manas International Airport served 10 thousand 746 flights: 2 thousand 725 domestic flights and 8 thousand 21 international ones. The number of passengers made 874 thousand 655 people. 15 152,2 tons of cargo were handled;

- Osh branch of MIA served 5 thousand 306 flights: domestic - 2 thousand 652, international - 2 thousand 654. Passenger traffic amounted to 642 thousand 457 people. 236.43 tons of cargo were handled.

- Issyk-Kul branch of MIA served 38 flights, 12 of them were domestic, while 26 – international. Passenger traffic was 824 people (international).

Partial restoration of traffic volumes began in the summer of 2020. In June, the Bishkek-Osh-Bishkek domestic flights resumed. In August, flights to Turkey and the UAE from Bishkek opened. Flights to Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan from Bishkek with limited frequency were restored in autumn.

As of today, Manas International Airport operates regular flights to Moscow, Dubai, Istanbul, Almaty and Tashkent, as well as domestic flights to Osh, Batken, Dzhalal-Abad and Isfana. In addition, there are charter flights to Russian cities, India and Tajikistan. Flights to neighboring countries (Russia) remain the most popular.
