Permanent rep of Kyrgyzstan to UN meets with High Commissioner for Refugees Grandi

Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva Almazbek Beishenaliyev met with the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Beishenaliyev noted the high level of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the UNHCR, and thanked Grandi for the timely assistance to Kyrgyzstan, including in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UNHCR, project activities carried out by the organization in the country, as well as promising areas of cooperation in the protection of the rights of refugees, asylum seekers and further prevention of statelessness.

In this context, Almazbek Beishenaliyev asked to consider the possibility of implementing a project through the UNHCR together with the competent authority of the republic to create and equip a base of operational reserves of equipment, property and machinery for the liquidation of emergency situations of natural and man-made origin, in order to deploy camps and field hospitals for refugees and internally displaced persons.

In turn, Filippo Grandi expressed satisfaction with UNHCR's cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, noted the organization's readiness to continue providing comprehensive technical, expert and humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan within its mandate, and assured that he would consider specific proposals the Kyrgyz side on deepening bilateral partnership between the parties, as voiced by Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to UN Almazbek Beishenaliyev.
