Permanent Rep of Kyrgyzstan to UN meets with High Rep of UN Secretary General for Disarmament Affairs

Bishkek, April 7, 2022 / Kabar /. Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Aida Kasymalieva met with Deputy Secretary General of the UN, High Representative of the UN Secretary General for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Aida Kasymalieva noted the commitment to the policy of disarmament and non-proliferation, and a clear confirmation of this is the Treaty on the Establishment of a Nuclear-Free Zone in Central Asia, the depositary of which is the Kyrgyz Republic. In this regard, in order to draw attention to the importance of education in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation, the Kyrgyz side plans to initiate the announcement of the International Day of Awareness on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation within the framework of the UN.

In turn, Izumi Nakamitsu noted the great role of Kyrgyzstan as a depository of the Treaty on a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Central Asia, and also welcomed the initiative of the Kyrgyz side to announce the International Day of Awareness on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Issues.
