Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus infection by German pharmaceutical firm BioNTech has been delivered to all regions of Kyrgyzstan, Azim Kyrgyzbayev, the chief specialist of the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis of the republic’s Health Ministry said during a briefing on Wednesday.
He added that vaccination with the drug is carried out in two stages.
"The protective effect begins to appear 12 days after the first dose. However, two shots are needed to provide full protection two doses are needed, which the WHO recommends to carry out 21 to 28 days apart," Kyrgyzbayev said.
In addition, the specialist pointed out that the effectiveness of the vaccine is 95%.
"I would like to note that COVID-19 virus is currently mutating and the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is to be vaccinated. In this regard I urge all Kyrgyzstanis to get the vaccine,” the representative of the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis noted.
On Oct. 27, Kyrgyzstan received Pfizer vaccine in the amount of 259,740 doses through COVAX initiative which includes 172 countries around the world.
