Bishkek, May 9 / Kabar /. On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, an opening of the photo exhibition was held at the UN Headquarters in New York, organized jointly by the Permanent Missions of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The event was attended by UN Secretary General António Guterres, who in his speech noted that the Second World War was the most tragic page in the history of mankind, which claimed millions of people's lives. He also recalled that on 24 November 2004, the General Assembly proclaimed 8 and 9 May as days of remembrance and reconciliation.
The photos of the war years, symbolizing valor and heroism of tens of millions of Soviet people who, among other things, defended freedom and saved mankind from Nazism, were presented to the high guests.
