Bishkek, May 6, 2021. / Kabar /. After the border conflict in the village of Maksat in Leilek region of Batken Oblast, a buildings of social facilities - a school, a kindergarten and the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - have been completely destroyed.
The conflict at the border occurred on April 28 near the Golovnoi water intake. Citizens of Tajikistan began installing video cameras at the Kyrgyz facility beyond the border, which is the Ak-Sai river. The scuffle between local residents very quickly escalated into an armed conflict between the security forces of the two countries.
During the conflict, the Tajik military used grenade launchers, heavy military equipment and aircraft against civilians and invaded Kyrgyzstan's territory, which is not even disputed. During joint negotiations of the diplomatic services the conflict was localized and resolved only on May 1.
Tajikistan's military handed over to Kyrgyzstan 10 civilians captured on Kyrgyz territory.
A total of 36 Kyrgyz, including children, were killed in the conflict, 189 people sustained injuries of varying severity, mostly shrapnel and bullet wounds.
More than 40,000 people have been evacuated from the border regions. According to the Kyrgyz Emergency Ministry, over 120 houses, a secondary school, a kindergarten, a medical and obstetric center, the Interior Ministry's building, four border guard outposts, a medical center, a dental center, a fire station, pharmacies, gas stations, cafes and canteens in the Kyrgyz border villages were destroyed.
A total of 84 social facilities were looted and destroyed.
Tajikistan officially claimed 16 deaths; subsequently, the figure rose to 19.
The General Prosecutor's Office initiated a criminal case on the conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border under the article "Crime Against Peace" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and assessed Tajikistan's actions as a military invasion.
