Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2019. / Kabar/. The chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) moved from the Kyrgyz Republic to the Russian Federation, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at a regular session of the CSTO Collective Security Council held in Bishkek.
During the narrow and expanded format meetings the heads of the Organization’s participating countries discussed a wide range of pressing issues of interaction between the countries within the CSTO.
The results of the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Organization were summed up. The summit participants assessed that it was successful and fruitful and the identified priorities and plans were fully implemented.
Following the results of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Summit, 15 documents were signed aimed at further strengthening cooperation within the Organization.
President Sooronbay Jeenbekov congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on assuming the chairmanship in the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, wished him success and emphasized the symbolism that the Russian presidency coincided with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in World War II in 1945.
On the sidelines of the CSTO Summit, President Sooronbai Jeenbekov held a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of the CSTO member states.
The CSTO Summit in Bishkek is attended by Presidents of Kyrgyzstan - Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Belarus - Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Russia - Vladimir Putin, Tajikistan - Emomali Rahmon, as well as Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev and Acting Secretary General CSTO Valery Semerikov.
The CSTO is a Russia-led military alliance created in 1992, grouping the six former Soviet republics of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, with the aim of safeguarding peace and stability in Eurasia.
