Bishkek, Feb.25, 2020. /Kabar/. The environmental situation in the capital is a concern for all of us and requires the introduction of modern trends in the green economy, Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev said during the meeting on ways to improve the environmental situation in Bishkek and regions of the country.
The prime minister noted one of the main tasks of the Kyrgyz Government is to ensure environmental safety of the country.
"At present, the environmental aspect in Kyrgyzstan is quite acute and the Government should pay special attention to this issue. According to the data of the National Statistics Committee, the emission of harmful substances in the air in Kyrgyzstan has increased 2 times in recent years.
The main causes of air pollution are emissions of harmful substances from cars, heating of private sector houses with coal, waste incineration and activities of thermal power plants. These problems need to be addressed in stages. We simply have to move to the introduction of modern trends in the green economy, to reduce the impact of harmful substances on our environment. This is a matter of time. We need to reduce air pollution and improve energy efficiency," Abylgaziev stressed.
Representatives of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government, the Bishkek Mayor's Office and Gazprom Kyrgyzstan spoke about their proposals to improve the environmental situation.
During the meeting, the importance of developing the NGV fuel market, converting boiler houses to natural gas, increasing environmental requirements to the quality of fuels and lubricants was noted.
In particular, the options were proposed to convert passenger transport, transport on the balance of the state and municipality, to the use of compressed natural gas, which will ensure appropriate budget savings and reduce emissions into the atmosphere by more than half.
Following the meeting, PM Abylgaziev instructed the relevant state bodies to carry out a thorough review of the considered measures to improve the environmental situation.
It was instructed to establish a concept for the development of heat supply taking into account the introduction of modern technologies in energy supply and construction, to develop a plan and schedule for the transfer of "Bishkekteploenergo" and "Kyrgyzteploenergo" boiler houses to natural gas, as well as to implement a pilot project to transfer the boiler house of Kant town to natural gas.
