Bishkek, Jan.30, 2020. /Kabar/. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev held a meeting on the environmental situation in Bishkek, and instructed to develop a science-based program for its improvement.
During the meeting, which was attended by representatives of environmental organizations, topical issues of environmental situation in the city of Bishkek were discussed, the press service of the Government said Thursday.
The prime minister stressed the environmental situation in the capital has become one of the most pressing problems for citizens and residents of the suburbs.
He added that at the same time, representatives of state bodies, environmental organizations and scientific community listed many factors affecting the ecology of the capital.
"This leads to a certain lack of reliable and corroborated information. It is very important for us to identify a specific list of reasons for the worsening of the situation in order to take effective measures and achieve environmental improvement as soon as possible.
For this purpose a coordination headquarters under the leadership of first deputy prime minister will be formed and a strategic program of improvement of ecological situation in the capital is to be elaborated. The Government will find necessary financial means to ensure qualitative implementation of this document so that all of us feel the improvements in the sphere of ecology,” Abylgaziev noted.
He stressed specific sets of measures to reduce the environmental impact should be developed in the most problematic areas.
First of all, according to the PM, it concerns the improvement of mechanisms for expanding the scale of gasification of residential areas through the introduction of new preferential financial instruments, and strengthening the work on the conversion of vehicles to NGV fuel with the revision of requirements for urban construction and infrastructure development.
The head of the Government stressed the issue of environmental protection requires special attention from the state, as well as from the environmental community and residents of Bishkek themselves.
Due to the onset of cold weather, air quality in Bishkek has dropped dramatically.
With the onset of cold weather, the number of exhaust gases of cars increases, the number of which exceeds the norm, citizens begin to sink houses and baths with garbage and rubber.
All this leads to air pollution in the capital, increasing air quality index (AQI).
In November 2019, indicators of air pollution in the capital were at 164 particles RM2.5 μg/m3, which according to the Air Visual app means "unhealthy": increased probability of side effects and aggravation of heart and lung activity among the general public - especially for sensitive groups.
In some parts of the capital the level of pollution reached 360 and higher.
