Bishkek, Apr. 11, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev took part in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EIGC), held Friday via videoconference.
During his speech, the Kyrgyz PM expressed his gratitude to his Russian and Kazakh Prime Ministers for their assistance and aid in combating coronavirus infection.
"The current situation with the spread of COVID-19 makes its corrections in our lives and in our work, and we are forced to hold today's meeting via videoconference. It is gratifying to note that the legal framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) includes all the necessary mechanisms to take joint action against modern challenges.
Today we are discussing the development of our integration at a time when the development of the economy coincided with the difficult epidemiological situation in the world, which led to a deterioration of the situation in financial markets, a significant drop in commodity prices. Against the backdrop of what is happening we are witnessing a critical decline in economic activity, a sharp slowdown in economic growth and mutual trade," Abylgaziev said.
In this situation, he added, most of the world's countries are closing borders, but all need to start a coherent and joint work to minimize the damage from coronavirus to the economic component.
"Today, a very important issue for all EAEU member states is to ensure food security of our countries and maintain mutual trade at an appropriate level. We need to ensure free movement of goods, and first of all food. At the same time, we must take care of the health and lives of our citizens.
In this regard, I propose to work together to adopt temporary sanitary and epidemiological rules for the movement of goods and drivers. In connection with the impact of coronavirus infection there is need to prepare a forecast for the medium term and develop measures to overcome the negative consequences of the pandemic," Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev added.
The head of Government noted the priority task is to strengthen the role of development institutions - the Eurasian Development Bank and the Eurasian Stabilization and Development Fund. They should fulfill their mission aimed at helping member states to overcome not only the crisis situation, but also to restore macroeconomic situation in post-crisis times.
"Our unity and commitment to taking joint measures will allow our Union to turn the challenges into an opportunity to further deepen the Eurasian integration in all areas of interaction," Kyrgyz PM Abylgaziev concluded.
The meeting was also attended by Prime Ministers of Russia Mikhail Mishustin, Belarus – Sergey Rumas, Moldova – Ion Chicu, Kazakhstan – Askar Mamin, Armenia – Nikol Pashinyan and Chair of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich.
The meeting participants reviewed the progress in preparing the draft Strategic Directions for the Development of Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025, improving the mechanisms for applying special protective, anti-dumping and countervailing measures, the development of electronic commerce, accelerated integration of national information systems and other issues, Kazinform reports.
As a result of the meeting, decisions, instructions and orders were adopted, including the EAEU measures to ensure economic stability in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
