Bishkek, March 19, 2021. / Kabar /. The Kyrgyz Republic intends to follow the path of green economy development, gradually abandoning traditional energy sources, goods and services that are harmful to the environment and increase risks to human health and life, Prime Minister of the republic Ulukbek Maripov said at a meeting with British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Charles Garrett and UNDP Resident Representative Louise Chamberlain.
The press service of the Kyrgyz Government reported that during the meeting, it was noted that as part of implementation of the Paris Agreement, work is carried out with the support of international partners on combating climate change, including reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
In turn, Charles Garrett informed about the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in November this year in Glasgow (Scotland).
"The Kyrgyz Republic has great opportunities to draw the attention of international climate organizations in order to attract funding for the implementation of projects aimed at improving the climate situation in the country," the ambassador said.
UNDP Resident Representative Louise Chamberlain also added that UNDP supports countries around the world in developing a strategy for the long-term development of a low greenhouse gas emitting country, and informed that the conference will be an effective platform to state their plans for climate security at the international level.
In conclusion, the Kyrgyz prime minister expressed appreciation for the close cooperation on this issue, and informed about the readiness of the Kyrgyz delegation to participate in the upcoming conference.
