Bishkek, April 13, 2021 . / Kabar / . Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov met on Tuesday with heads of light industry enterprises, the press service of the Kyrgyz Government said.
The head of the government noted the high importance of light industry development in the production of gross national product, solving social problems of the state and increasing the potential of small and medium enterprises in the Kyrgyz Republic.
"Thanks to you, a recognizable domestic brand "Made in Kyrgyzstan" has been created, which should be further promoted. Today, the textile and garment industry is one of the leading sectors of the domestic economy with a high export index. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the industry has faced a number of serious problems related both to raw material supply limitations and a decline in demand for finished products. Therefore, it is important for us to solve the difficulties that have arisen. Earlier, president of the Kyrgyz Republic signed decrees to support and protect businesses. Work will continue in this direction. We are interested in ensuring that the domestic textile industry develops and conquers foreign markets,” Ulukbek Maripov noted.
The prime minister highlighted the intention of the Government to focus on increasing the productivity of clusters, expanding the capacity and production capacity of light industry.
During the meeting, representatives of light industry told about the current situation in the industry, the difficulties they face and the problematic issues that require government support.
Ulukbek Maripov answered the questions of the meeting participants and stressed that the necessary instructions would be given to the relevant state bodies on all the issues raised.
He assured heads of light industry that in the near future he will consider with Kazakh counterpart an issue of transporting textile products through the territory of Kazakhstan, including importing products into Kyrgyzstan by rail.
In the period before the COVID-19 pandemic, the volume of industrial production in 2019 made KGS 9.7 billion and KGS 7.8 billion in 2020. The largest share of light industry is in the clothing industry - 80%. Goods worth up to $155 million (in 2020 - $94.1 million) were exported.
