Bishkek, March 1, 2021. / Kabar /. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov met today with representatives of associations of miners and geologists of the republic and the International Business Council, the press service of the Kyrgyz Government reported.
During the meeting, the current state of the mining industry and its development prospects were discussed.
"The mining sector is one of the priority area of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. However, the socio-political situation, which occurred on Oct. 6, 2020, led to the shutdown of many mining companies. Nevertheless, according to the results of 2020, KGS 18 billion 204 million 37 thousand were received to the national and local budgets as a result of the activities of mining companies, which is 140% compared to 2019 – KGS 12 billion 999 million 254 thousand. Taking into account certain difficulties in the mining sector, which have a negative impact on the development of the economy and investment attractiveness of the country, we intend to carry out appropriate reforms," said Maripov.
Association members identified the main problems of the mining industry, including legislative regulation of subsoil use, lack of professional staff, budgetary funds for the development of the industry, political instability, and problems of interaction with local communities.
The experts also noted the need to maintain a specialized state body in the sphere of subsoil use and to ensure stability of work in the sphere of subsoil use, to create an institute of professional expert community, to resume cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
