PM Zhaparov: Russian will remain official language and no one intends to change its status

Bishkek, Oct. 21, 2020. /Kabar/. The Kyrgyz Republic attaches importance to further strengthening and building strategic partnership and allied relations with the Russian Federation as before, Acting President of Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Sadyr Zhaparov said at a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nikolay Udovichenko.

"The domestic political situation in the country has stabilized. Along with this, activity of all branches of power and state apparatus to restore the socio-economic situation in the country has intensified. I would like to note here a special role of the Russian Federation in stabilization of domestic political situation in Kyrgyzstan. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Russian side for its support during the difficult period for the country, related to the spread of coronavirus infection, including sending humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan," Sadyr Zhaparov said.

Ambassador Udovichenko congratulated Zhaparov on his appointment as Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan.

"The Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation have especially close and warm relations. The Russian side is interested in mutually beneficial economic cooperation and continuation of language policy in Kyrgyzstan. A number of solid programs are being implemented in the Kyrgyz Republic. The Russian Federation is ready to assist in modernizing the tax system and maintaining the system of traceability marking of goods,” the ambassador said.

In turn, PM Zhaparov assured that according to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, Russian will remain the official language and no one intends to change its status. In this context, he expressed a request to increase the number of teachers of Russian language to teach citizens living in villages of Kyrgyzstan.

The sides discussed the issues of financial assistance to the Kyrgyz Republic, possible increase of regular flights between the countries and the socio-economic situation in the country. It was reported that further work of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Russian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation from the Kyrgyz side will be carried out by First Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Artem Novikov.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to continue an active dialogue to address pressing issues on the agenda of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation.
