Positive experience of joint work of Kyrgyzstan, World Bank noted

Bishkek, Mar.2, 2020./Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov met on Monday with World Bank (WB) Regional Director for Central Asia Lilia Burunciuc.

According to the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, the Kyrgyz FM and WB regional director discussed issues of preparation for the first European Union-Central Asia Economic Forum, and measures taken by the agencies to optimize the intra-government and related procedures for projects, funded by the World Bank.

The sides also considered emerging world problems with spread of coronavirus.

The World Bank has expressed its readiness to support developing countries, including Kyrgyzstan, to strengthen their capacity for protection against coronavirus.

Minister Aidarbekov noted the positive experience of joint work of Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank since the establishment of cooperation in 1992, and the importance of the Partnership Framework (PFP) between the World Bank Group and the Kyrgyz Republic for 2019-2022 fiscal years, as one of the country's largest development partners.

Assistance was requested to accelerate the ratification by the Kyrgyz side of three World Bank projects aimed at optimizing statistics, tax administration, and education and regional development.

The World Bank is working with the Kyrgyz Republic to boost economic growth and competitiveness and improve public administration, public service delivery, the business environment, and social conditions.

The World Bank Country Partnership (CPF) for the Kyrgyz Republic, defining the strategic focus of the World Bank Group’s (WBG) engagement with the country for 2019-2022, was endorsed in November by the World Bank Board of Directors.

With an overarching goal of supporting diversified, export-oriented growth that is both inclusive and sustainable, the CPF identifies three key areas for development in the coming years: strengthening foundations for inclusive private sector-led growth; raising productivity and building greater connectivity; and enhancing economic opportunities and building resilience through investments in human capital.

The Framework is also fully aligned with both the Kyrgyz Republic’s Sustainable Development Strategy to 2040 and the government’s medium-term ‘Unity, Trust, Creation’ program.
