Bishkek, Nov.21, 2019. /Kabar/. “Religion and culture have no borders,” Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the “Islam and Orthodoxy-Religions of Peace” International Conference.
"We share a common history, a similar mentality of our peoples. The spiritual reference points of our societies are similar. Unfortunately, over the past decades all our countries have faced such phenomena as the pursuit of material values to the detriment of spiritual values, the fall of morality, and the leveling of moral and ethical standards. We will have to work together, to coordinate common efforts to effectively overcome these negative factors and build a moral society, to educate patriotic youth in each of our countries” he said.
On the other hand, according to the President, it is possible to observe the mass involvement of young people in religion in all countries of the region.
“Religion has a very powerful mobilization potential, so our states are obliged to prevent its use for destructive purposes. Religion should serve to educate a spiritual citizen, a moral society. We need new research and recommendations to work with young believers in new conditions. We have little research and development in this direction. I hope our conference will play role in addressing this topical issue,” Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
The head of state expressed hope today's Conference, aimed at reaffirming common spiritual values, strengthening interfaith dialogue and strengthening friendship between peoples is of great importance for all.
"This event was organized on the basis of agreements between the relevant state and religious organizations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation. The conference brings together religious leaders of Russia and all Central Asian countries and is held in order to create a common platform for cooperation. I hope the results of the Conference, which is held in such an authoritative composition, will be useful for all countries ideas and opinions, as well as effective proposals,” the President added.
The “Islam and Orthodoxy-Religions of Peace” International Conference, attended by President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, is taking place at the Ala-Archa state residence in Bishkek.
It is attended by representatives of the Spiritual Administrations of Muslims of Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tatarstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Orthodox Church of Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
The purpose of the Conference is to analyze historical processes and the current situation in the sphere of interaction between Islam and Orthodox Christianity in the post-Soviet space, to discuss the common spiritual and cultural values of the two religions, their place and role in the construction of peace and harmony, the development of integration processes in the Eurasian space.
