Astana, June 9 /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev is attending the closed session of Council of Heads of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on June 9 in the framework of his official visit to Kazakhstan.
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev welcomed presidents of SCO member states, who proceeded to the session hall after formal photos were taken.
Following the closed session, SCO session will be continued in the extended form.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), s a Eurasian political, economic, and military organisation which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia,Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
On 10 July 2015, the SCO decided to admit India and Pakistan as full members. India and Pakistan signed the memorandum of obligations on 24 June 2016 at Tashkent, thereby starting the formal process of joining the SCO as full members. India and Pakistan joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as full members today, on 9 June 2017 in Astana, Khazakstan summit.
The countries-observers in the SCO at the moment are Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia, the partner countries are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
