President calls on local authorities to engage people in fight against corruption

Bishkek, Feb. 27, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov called on local government representatives to assist in the fight against corruption, he head of state made his address at the opening of the forum “National Dialogue on Regional Development”.

He pointed out that the ongoing work to identify corruption should be nationwide, otherwise it will not have the desired effect.

“Corruption has taken roots much deeper than we thought. Without the cleansing of society from corruption, we will not be able to pull the country out of the economic lag. This requires the support of the people,” the president said.

In his speech, he referred to the experience of other countries where civil society provided assistance in identifying corruption schemes, informing the law enforcement and oversight bodies about this. According to the president, it is possible to adopt this experience in Kyrgyzstan with the support of local authorities, who should directly engage in close dialogue with the population.
