President, CEC head discuss preparations for parliamentary elections

Bishkek, Oct.16, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov received Chairwoman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendum of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurzhan Shaildabekova.

The press service of the President reported that the issues of improving the country's electoral legislation, the progress of preparations for the elections of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh and local councils in 2020-2021 were discussed.

Chairwoman Shaildabekova informed that the following elections are planned for the next two years in the country in accordance with the electoral legislation: elections for 31 local councils in April 2020, elections for the Jogorku Kenesh in October 2020, elections for 417 local councils in April 2021, elections for 4 local councils in October 2021.

The chairwoman of the Election Commission noted that all activities are planned taking into account the deadlines of the next elections. The work on practical implementation of the adopted amendments to the electoral legislation, material and technical basis of the electoral system of the country is being conducted actively.

The President recalled the task set to strengthen the party system by improving the electoral legislation. He also noted the need for effective awareness-raising work on the innovations of the electoral legislation, increase citizens' confidence in the electoral system and ensure transparency of the work of the election commission.
