Bishkek, Feb.5, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov received on Wednesday Director of the State Agency for Water Resources Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev.
The meeting was also attended by Saipidin Momunov, Director of the Department for Water Supply Development and Disposal of the Agency, the President’s press service said.
The sides discussed current state and priority plans on implementation of projects on expansion of irrigation systems network, and projects on clean water supply to population.
The President emphasized that implementation of the above projects is the basis for regional development of the country, and therefore they were identified as one of the priority areas of state policy until 2024.
Director of the State Water Resources Agency Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev spoke about the progress in implementing the State Program for the Development of Irrigation of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2017-2026.
He reminded that according to the first and second stage, 31 irrigation facilities were identified as a priority until 2024, which in total will introduce more than 26 thousand hectares of new irrigated land and improve water supply on 46 thousand hectares of land.
The State Agency director emphasized as of today the design and estimate documentation is ready for 22 irrigation facilities. The construction of 5 facilities has been completed, construction works on 14 facilities are ongoing.
In 2019, 730 hectares of new irrigated land were introduced and water supply on 1395 hectares of land improved.
In 2020, it is planned to introduce 1700 ha of new irrigated land and it is expected to increase water supply on the area up to 2500 ha of land.
Among the major irrigation projects for the coming years, he named the construction of the Maksat inverted siphon in Leilek region of Batken Oblast, which is expected to be completed by 2023.
This will make it possible to introduce 1800 hectares of new irrigated land in the border zones, about 3000 hectares of land are to be transferred from pumping stations to gravity irrigation.
Saipidin Momunov, Acting Director of the Department of the Water Supply Development and Disposal of the Water Resources Agency informed that at the initial stage, 653 villages without clean water were identified throughout the country.
In the last three years, drinking water supply systems were built in 107 villages of the country. By 2024 there is need to complete the construction and upgrade the existing infrastructure in 715 villages.
Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev and Saipidin Momunov noted active work is being done to raise funds from international development partners to implement these tasks.
President Jeenbekov noted the need to develop the National Water Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic, and stressed the importance of strengthening interaction with the donor community in attracting additional resources to complete the planned water supply facilities by the end of 2023.
