Bishkek, Aug.22, 2019. /Kabar/. As part of his two-day working trip to Naryn Oblast, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov familiarized with irrigation projects in Ak-Talaa region, his press service reported.

State Agency for Water Resources Director Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev spoke about the plans for construction and reconstruction of water facilities on the Ala-Buga, Zhaman-Davan and Kurtka rivers.

It is planned to build pools of daily regulation and reconstruction of existing irrigation canals. Separate feasibility studies are being prepared for each of the rivers and the issue of attracting international financial institutions such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is being studied.

The projects will start to be implemented from 2020. Upon completion of their implementation, it will be possible to provide access to irrigation water in addition to more than 4,000 hectares of land in the Ak-Talaa region and improve the reclamation capacity of existing irrigated areas.

President Jeenbekov noted modernization and expansion of irrigation networks is an integral part of the regional development policy. He stressed that the access of farmers to irrigation water is one of the keys to the comprehensive development of agriculture and regions.

The relevant state bodies are recommended to expedite the elaboration of this issue with the involvement of international development partners.
