President hands over flag to Kyrgyz national team partaking in 33th Olympics

Bishkek, July 22, 2024 . / Kabar / .President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met July 21 with athletes who received licenses for the upcoming 33th Summer Olympic Games and handed over presented the state flag to the captain of the Kyrgyz national team Akzhol Makhmudov.

Addressing the Olympians, the head of state noted that the Olympics is a global event that occupies an important place in the history of world sports. Therefore, every country strives to take only leading positions and achieve victories.

Sadyr Zhaparov reminded that during the years of Independence our country has won a total of 7 Olympic medals: 3 silver and 4 bronze. All these achievements were at the Summer Olympics.

He stated that Kyrgyz athletes have won 16 licenses for the upcoming Summer Olympics in five sports: wrestling, judo, swimming, athletics and boxing.

As Sadyr Zhaparov stressed, most of the licenses were obtained in wrestling.

"Wrestling has become our main locomotive among Olympic sports and has glorified Kyrgyzstan throughout the world," he said.

The Kyrgyz leader added that Kyrgyzstan was one step away from a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

"Three years have passed since then. During this time, the country has expanded its capabilities in all areas. The political position of the country has been strengthened, economic opportunities have increased, and the living conditions of citizens are improving. Major projects, including the construction of sports infrastructure, are being implemented by our own efforts.

In 2021, meeting with you, I said that our common goal is to win first places and gold medals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. These were not only my words, but also the wish, the hope of the people. I think it is time to fulfill these hopes. I firmly believe that you will win the first gold medal in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan, make a gift to the 33rd anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's Independence and the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast.

You are in the thoughts and hearts of 7 million Kyrgyzstanis, hundreds of thousands of compatriots are waiting for you to win," the head of state said and wished the Olympians good luck and determination to achieve victory.

At the end of the event, President Sadyr Zhaparov handed over the state flag of Kyrgyzstan to the captain of the national team, renowned wrestler Akzhol Makhmudov.
