Bishkek, Jan.13, 2020. /Kabar/. Today, Jan. 13 President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov held a working meeting on the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, his press service said.
The head of state was informed on measures to prevent border conflicts and ensure border security, including at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Batken Oblast.
The President noted the particular importance to strengthen the work to develop cross-border cooperation with neighbouring countries, and to ensure safe living conditions for citizens living in border areas.
He recalled mutual desire to maintain a stable situation at the common border was noted during his phone conversation with Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon, held on Jan.11 this year.
The Kyrgyz President said all work on the prevention cross-border conflicts should be done in close cooperation with the Tajik side to prevent provocative actions from both sides.
It also remains important to increase awareness among the local population.
Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Razakov spoke about the readiness of the Kyrgyz delegation to hold talks with the Tajik side on the border situation, which is expected to be held tomorrow, Jan.14, on the border territory.
The meeting was attended by Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Rayimberdi Duishenbiev, Deputy PM Jenish Razakov, Deputy Chief of the Office of the President Almambet Saliyev and Secretary of Kyrgyzstan’s Security Council Damir Sagynbayev, Prosecutor General Otkurbek Dzhamshitov, Interior Minister Kashkar Dzhunushaliyev, Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Orozbek Opumbayev and State Border Service Chairman Ularbek Sharsheyev.
On Jan. 10, 2020 at 1 a.m., unknown citizens of Tajikistan threw stones at the cars of two Kyrgyz citizens on the Osh-Batken-Isfana highway.
At 2:40 a.m. shots were fired at the section of the Kok-Tash border post in the Dakhma area from the Tajik human settlements, which forced the Kyrgyz side to begin evacuating women and children.
The shots were stopped at 8 a.m.
On Jan.11 Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held phone conversation to discuss the situation at the border.
Prime ministers of the two countries, as well their deputies also discussed issues related to joint measures to stabilize the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border.
According to the press service of the Kyrgyz State Border Service, current situation at the border is estimated as stable.
