Bishkek, Sept. 26, 2020 / Kabar /. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov speaking about the relationship between Kyrgyzstan and Russia, recalled that Russia is a strategic partner and ally of Kyrgyzstan.

“We attach great importance to cooperation with Russia. Today our relations are at the highest level,” President Jeenbekov said in a regular interview with the state radio.

He noted that next week he will pay a working visit to the Russian Federation and hold talks with President Vladimir Putin, with whom he will discuss a number of issues of both bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

“As you know, this year has been declared a cross year between our countries. However, due to the pandemic, we were unable to carry out some activities,” Jeenbekov said.

The president reminded that in connection with the stabilization of the epidemiological situation, the 22nd meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held in Bishkek this week, calling it one of the important events in the joint activities of the cross-year program.

“I met with the head of the delegation, Vice Prime Minister of Russia Alexei Overchuk. We discussed the development of trade, economic and investment cooperation, as well as issues in the energy sector. We continue to work with the Russian side to agree on the timing of these events. We will hold some of them by the end of 2020, and some, including the official closing ceremony of the cross year, will be held in 2021,” he said.

President Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted that despite the current difficulties, every effort is being made to implement the activities planned within the framework of the cross year of Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
