President Jeenbekov meets with Swedish Parliamentary Delegation

Bishkek, Jan.29., 2020. /Kabar/. Today, Jan.29 Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov met with a parliamentary delegation from the Kingdom of Sweden, headed by First Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag Åsa Lindestam.

The sides exchanged views on topical issues of bilateral cooperation between the countries, including priorities for inter-parliamentary cooperation, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reported.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed interest in developing bilateral cooperation with Sweden, including in strengthening parliamentary democracy. He stressed that developed economy is primarily needed for building a progressive parliamentary system.

"We are clearly aware that a strong civil society and parliamentarism contribute to the development of the country," said Jeenbekov.

The President named trade, economic and environmental spheres as priority areas for cooperation. He noted Kyrgyzstan is interested in attracting foreign investors, including those from Sweden, to implement joint projects and called for active use of preferences under the GSP + status.

The Kyrgyz leader emphasized the republic is ready to strengthen relations with Sweden in all areas of mutual interest.

Head of the delegation, First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag Åsa Lindestam expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz President for the meeting, noting that the main purpose of their parliamentary delegation's visit to Kyrgyzstan is to strengthen the Kyrgyz-Swedish relations, especially inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Swedish MPs expressed interest in strengthening economic ties between the countries, increasing cooperation in trade and economic, mining and environmental protection spheres.

The Swedish side expressed readiness for further fruitful cooperation and exchange of experience in strengthening democratic institutions.

Deputy Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) Aida Kasymalieva and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for cooperation with Sweden, MP Akylbek Zhaparov participated in the meeting.
