Bishkek, May 22, 2018 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov received today OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, the Kyrgyz President's press service reported.

The head of state noted that his visit to the country demonstrates the support of the OSCE to the ongoing democratic reforms and the chosen political course of development.

"The events that took place in Kyrgyzstan in 2005 and 2010, are a clash of dictatorship and parliamentary democracy. With the support of the international community, including the OSCE, we were able to maintain our statehood when the country was experiencing serious trials. The past presidential elections are convincing evidence that Kyrgyzstan is following the path of democracy. We chose parliamentarism and we will not get out of this way, because the future of the state is connected with the parliamentary democracy," the President stressed.

The head of state recalled that 2018 was declared the Year of Regional Development in the country and stressed that special attention was paid to improving living conditions in rural areas, developing the export potential of the regions, creating jobs, which would reduce the flow of migration.

In addition, Jeenbekov stressed that at present one of the priorities of the Government is to create conditions for promoting the digital economy.

Jeenbekov congratulated Greminger on the 20th anniversary of the OSCE presence in Kyrgyzstan and expressed confidence in further fruitful cooperation.

Touching upon the autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Kyrgyzstan, he noted that this event would contribute to strengthening parliamentarism in the country.

Noting that democratic institutions are consistently developing in Kyrgyzstan, he stressed the positive aspects of protecting human rights in the republic.

"We were pleased with your decisions aimed at protecting freedom of speech. We are also glad that you appreciate the contribution of the civil sector to the development of the country. The OSCE supports Kyrgyzstan in strengthening parliamentary democracy based on the principles of ensuring the rule of law and human rights, freedom of speech and support for the civil sector," Greminger stressed.

Also, the OSCE Secretary General focused on the National Strategy for Sustainable Development, noting that this document will be a good platform for a short-term and long-term partnership between the OSCE and Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that the OSCE will continue to implement a number of activities, including supporting the government's efforts to achieve sustainable development in the regions and the implementation of the Taza Koom project.

At the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on partnership in the implementation of regional projects.
