Bishkek, Nov.21, 2019. /Kabar/. “No adolescent should remain outside of secular education,” Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the “Islam and Orthodoxy - Religions of Peace" International Conference.
The head of state said Article 45 of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic clearly states that "general basic education shall be compulsory".
“Therefore, the desire for religious education in Madarsa (specific type of religious school or college for the study of the Islamic religion) or churches should not interfere with the public general education," the Kyrgyz leader said.
Also, Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted the state is responsible for maintaining peace and stability in society.
“To date, many new religious movements, sects, madhhabs (school of thought within Islamic jurisprudence) and tariqas (school or order of Sufism) have emerged. Separation for religious reasons, religious intolerance and, of course, religious extremism are prohibited. Peace in the country and unity in society will be protected by the state by all available means. The state cannot allow phenomena that hinder the development of the country to take place. The state will be more active in settling religious issues,” he said.
The “Islam and Orthodoxy-Religions of Peace” International Conference, attended by President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, took place at the Ala-Archa state residence in Bishkek.
It was attended by representatives of the Spiritual Administrations of Muslims of Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tatarstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Orthodox Church of Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
The purpose of the Conference was to analyze historical processes and the current situation in the sphere of interaction between Islam and Orthodox Christianity in the post-Soviet space, to discuss the common spiritual and cultural values of the two religions, their place and role in the construction of peace and harmony, the development of integration processes in the Eurasian space.
