President of Kazakhstan thanks Kyrgyz people for revival of Nomad Games

Bishkek, Sept. 8, 2024 /Kabar/. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked the Kyrgyz people for the revival of the Nomad Games speaking at the opening ceremony of the 5th World Nomad Games in Astana.

"10 years ago, these games were organized for the first time by the Kyrgyz brothers, for this I express my deep gratitude to them," Tokayev said.

The president of Kazakhstan emphasized the importance of the contribution of nomads to the development of world civilization and emphasized the importance of preserving culture and passing it on to future generations.

He said that the Nomad Games are usually attended by countries where peoples - the heirs of the nomadic civilization live. Teams from all over the world came to Astana to participate in the 5th World Games, including countries whose peoples were not nomadic.

At the opening ceremony of the Games, the teams of the participating countries marched ceremonially across the arena. The first to march in the parade was the national team of Kyrgyzstan, as the country that created it. The Games has been holding since 2014. They were first held in Cholpon-Ata city of Kyrgyzstan.

During the parade, the flag of Kyrgyzstan was carried by athlete Baktiyar Mirlan uulu. Kyrgyzstan is represented at the Games by 181 athletes in 18 sports (Kazakh wrestling, Tatar wrestling, kurash, toguz korgool, mangala, Ovari, dice, kok-boru, kok-par, horse racing, belt wrestling, tug-of-war, etc.).

Then a large-scale show was held, in which about 3,000 artists and leading creative groups of Kazakhstan took part.

Delegations from 89 countries confirmed their participation in the Games. More than 2.5 thousand athletes will compete for 97 sets of medals.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolaev, and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Astana to participate in the opening ceremony.
