Bishkek, Dec.25, 2019. /Kabar/. At the recent Summit of Central Asian leaders in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov raised the issue of payment of compensation for the use of Kyrgyzstan’s water resources. This became known today at his final press conference, held at the Ala-Archa state residence in Bishkek.
He said some Central Asian countries receive water from Kyrgyzstan.
“At the same time, we spend a lot of money on maintenance of reservoirs," the President explained.
Jeenbekov reminded that an agreement on compensation for the use of water resources of the Naryn River was signed in 1998, but it was suspended.
"At the meeting, I raised the issue of resumption of payments for the maintenance of reservoirs," the President said, and added the Central Asian leaders were positive about the issues raised.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted payment for the maintenance of hydraulic facilities is a global practice.
The Kyrgyz President’s press conference took place today, Dec.25 at the Ala-Archa state residence in Bishkek.
A total of 188 journalists have been accredited for the event.
Of these, 160 journalists are from 77 national media and 28 journalists - from 15 foreign media, accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Note that this is the second press conference of Sooronbay Jeenbekov as the President.
