President receives chairman of Financial Intelligence Service Turgunbekov

Bishkek, March 25, 2021 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov received on Thursday Chairman of the State Financial Intelligence Service (SFIS) Kanatbek Turgunbekov.

The press service of the Kyrgyz president reported that information was listened on measures to combat money laundering and financing of terrorist activities.

SFIS Chairman Turgunbekov told about the current activities of the Service and the work being done to improve the sectoral legislation.

He also reported on the positive results of consideration of the second Progress Report of the Kyrgyz Republic at the 31st Plenary Meeting of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG).

President Zhaparov noted the importance of strengthening coordination of interagency cooperation on the part of the SFIS, particularly with the State Tax Service, the State Registration Service, the State Personnel Service and other authorized bodies.

The head of state stressed these measures should be aimed at creating as soon as possible electronic databases and financial monitoring mechanisms for "Public Officials" and "Beneficial owners of legal entities" in accordance with the provisions of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.

Sadyr Zhaparov noted the need to promptly take effective measures to reduce the risks of laundering of criminal proceeds and financing of terrorist activities, as well as the search and return of assets withdrawn from the country illegally or criminally.

The Kyrgyz leader drew attention to the development of a medium-term strategy for the development of a national system to combat the financing of terrorist activities and the legalization of criminal proceeds, which should be primarily aimed at reducing corruption and the shadow economy.
