President Sadyr Zhaparov holds talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping

Bishkek, July 4, 2024. /Kabar/. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov met on Wednesday with Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping in Astana city of Kazakhstan.

The heads of state discussed current issues of Kyrgyz-Chinese bilateral cooperation, the progress of implementation of agreements at the highest level and joint projects in various fields.

Sadyr Zhaparov noted with satisfaction that within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Kyrgyzstan and China have the same understanding on the most important issues of multilateral interaction, as well as on other issues of mutual interest. Kyrgyzstan is ready for close cooperation with China within the framework of this country’s chairmanship in the SCO in 2024-2025.

The president of Kyrgyzstan noted that the highest level of political dialogue provides an excellent opportunity for the successful advancement of the economic agenda between the regions of Kyrgyzstan and China. China is one of the main trade and investment partners of Kyrgyzstan; from year to year there is a progressive positive dynamics in the growth of trade turnover between the two countries.

In addition, Sadyr Zhaparov outlined the project for the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which is a key component of the One Belt, One Road initiative and emphasizes its importance as a symbol of cooperation between countries.

He emphasized that the political stage of the project had been successfully completed with the signing of a trilateral intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in jointly promoting the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, and now the next step is the approval of a more detailed commercial agreement.

During the conversation, President Sadyr Zhaparov invited Xi Jinping to visit Kyrgyzstan at a time convenient for him.

In turn, Chinese President Xi Jinping noted that China is interested in developed Kyrgyzstan and supports the country in ongoing reforms. The Chinese side is ready to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in all areas.

He also noted the importance of doubling mutual trade and the openness of Chinese markets to import environmentally friendly products from Kyrgyzstan. The volume of mutual trade turnover is increasing from year to year, amounting to about $20 billion by the end of 2023; it is important to make efforts to increase trade and economic indicators.

At the same time, the Chinese leader noted with satisfaction the increase in the number of flights between the two countries, noting their readiness to support the opening of air traffic on the Osh-Kashgar route. In addition, Xi Jinping noted that freight and passenger transportation between China and Kyrgyzstan has reached pre-pandemic levels.

Speaking about the project to build the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the Chinese leader noted that the recent signing of a trilateral intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in jointly promoting this project laid the legal foundation.

The chairman of the People's Republic of China, taking this opportunity, also invited President Sadyr Zhaparov to visit China at a time convenient for him.

In addition, during the negotiations, the parties touched upon issues of cooperation in the energy sector, transport and logistics, investment and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Following the meeting, documents were signed on expanding cooperation between the two countries in the field of agricultural exports, regional cooperation and the media.
