Bishkek, May 8, 2023. /Kabar/. On May 7, as part of an official visit to the Russian Federation, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov opened in Rzhev a memorial to Kyrgyz soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War in the battles in the Rzhev-Vyazemsky direction.
Sadyr Zhaparov and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin laid flowers at the memorial and honored the memory of the fallen soldiers with a minute of silence.
A four-meter granite monument in the form of three Ala-Too mountain peaks with snow caps was erected in honor of the Red Army soldiers, natives of the Kyrgyz SSR, who died in the Battle of Rzhev.
The initiative to install a memorial on Rzhev land belongs to the Kyrgyz side and is supported by the Russian side. The construction of the memorial was carried out, among other things, at the expense of the people of Kyrgyzstan.
The head of state in his speech noted that his arrival in this city was connected with the opening of a memorial monument dedicated to fellow Kyrgyz citizens who died heroically during the Great Patriotic War. It was here that some of the largest and bloodiest battles took place, in which the common Victory was forged in May 1945.
Sadyr Zhaparov noted the contribution of compatriots to the cause of the common Victory and gave some figures and facts. Thus, about 400,000 Kyrgyzstanis, or every fourth adult resident, were called up for the war. More than 130 thousand people did not return from the battlefields. Over 150,000 Kyrgyzstanis were awarded military decorations for their courage and bravery, 74 of them became Heroes of the Soviet Union, 21 soldiers were awarded the Order of Glory of three degrees.
“Kyrgyzstanis not only bravely fought on the fronts, but also made a significant contribution to the rear. Dozens of large factories were evacuated to Kyrgyzstan. A common victory was forged at these plants and factories,” the president stressed.
The head of state noted the highest degree of symbolism of the location of the monument, recalling that during the Second World War military operations in the area of the Rzhe-Vyazemsky ledge were among the most fierce. According to various sources, up to 60,000 Kyrgyzstanis died near Rzhev. The remains of some were found by search parties and buried in mass graves. To date, more than four thousand natives of Kyrgyzstan who died in these battles have been identified.
Sadyr Zhaparov expressed his deep gratitude to the search groups and stressed that the exploits of the heroes and the names of the victims will remain in the memory of the peoples of Kyrgyzstan and Russia as a heroic contribution to the common Victory.
He stressed that this memorial monument will serve as a symbol of eternal gratitude to all the heroes who fought for a common bright future.
Sadyr Zhaparov and Vyacheslav Volodin also laid flowers at the memorial to the Kazakh soldiers, honoring their memory with a moment of silence.
