This became known today at the Forum “75 Years to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. The results and prospects for cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Nations”.

“Kyrgyzstan is an active participant in international environmental processes, as climate change is acutely felt in our mountainous country. Climate change affects glaciers and water resources, and can lead to an increase in the number of natural calamities and natural disasters. The Kyrgyz Republic perceives climate change as a serious threat to the ecosystem and people. Therefore, I have signed the Law, which ratified the Paris Agreement on Climate,” the President stressed.

“Today, there is a serious potential for transition to environmentally friendly electricity in our country. The implementation of hydroelectric power projects in Kyrgyzstan can to some extent meet the needs of Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan in hydropower,” the head of state added.

He added this will create favorable conditions for sustainable development of the entire region and reduce the use of environmentally harmful resources.

The Law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on Oct.17, 2019.
