President Zhaparov addresses meeting of 16th BRICS Summit

Bishkek, Oct. 24, 2024 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov addressed the first plenary session of the 16th BRICS+ summit in the expanded format, held in Kazan, Russia.

In his speech, the Kyrgyz leader noted that Kyrgyzstan shares the BRICS goals of developing entrepreneurship, digital and environmentally friendly technologies and solving climate problems. He noted that these principles fully coincide with the Sustainable Development Goals integrated into the National Development Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2040.

Zhaparov also emphasized that the topic of combating climate change is particularly relevant for mountainous countries and in this regard Kyrgyzstan initiated the "Five-Year Action Plan for the Development of Mountain Regions" for 2023-2027 adopted by the UN General Assembly. Another initiative of the country was also noted - consolidation of the new global Dialogue on Mountains and Climate Change as an annual event under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and formation of the Mountain Partnership Negotiating Group.

"Kyrgyzstan stands for a fair and non-discriminatory international economic order, universal access to the benefits of the world economy and modern technologies. I am convinced that the development of alternative BRICS cross-border payment mechanisms, new financial instruments using digital opportunities, and improvement of payment infrastructure will contribute to growth and efficiency of trade on a regional and global scale," said Sadyr Zhaparov.

The president stated that Kyrgyzstan is interested in cooperating with the New Development Bank, especially in financing infrastructure and sustainable development projects both in the BRICS countries and other developing countries.

The head of state stressed the readiness to share the country's experience in the development of digitalization, infrastructure projects and transition to a "green economy" with interested participants of the outreach/BRICS Plus format.

Concluding his speech, President Zhaparov expressed the country's readiness to contribute to the collective efforts to address key issues on the agenda and expressed interest in strengthening multifaceted cooperation with the participants of the event to develop friendship and partnership for the benefit of the peoples.
