President Zhaparov casts his vote in local councils elections

Bishkek, Nov. 17, 2024 . / Kabar / . President Sadyr Zhaparov voted at polling station #1046 in Bishkek in the local council elections.

In Kyrgyzstan, elections of deputies of local councils have begun at 8:00 a.m.

Currently, 4,928 candidates are competing for seats in 33 city councils on party lists. 10,081 candidates have been registered in 231 aiyl keneshs.

Following administrative-territorial reform, local keneshs were dissolved and new elections were scheduled.

Before the reform, there were 32 city and 452 aiyl keneshs (484 in total). After the reform, their number decreased to 33 city and 231 aiyl keneshs (264 in total), which is a 59% reduction. Accordingly, the number of mandates has also decreased.

The elections are also held with a number of peculiarities. In particular, remote voting has been implemented for the first time in Kyrgyzstan.

For this purpose, 10 polling stations have been opened across the country.

In addition, each district will have its own ballot. For this purpose, new technical devices were delivered to all districts.

Each ballot paper has a unique QR code. The code is entered into a machine that prints a new ballot, and the old one is automatically canceled.
