President Zhaparov receives Chinese FM Wang Yi

Bishkek, July 31, 2022 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov received Wang Yi, the Member of the State Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on further development of a comprehensive Kyrgyz-Chinese strategic partnership, as well as on ensuring global and regional security and stability, the press service of the Kyrgyz president said.

The head of state welcomed the guest and noted that his visit to Kyrgyzstan underscores the high level and active dynamics of strategic cooperation between the two states.

Speaking about the sphere of foreign economic relations, Zhaparov noted that Kyrgyzstan considers China as a major partner.

"We are interested in developing mutual trade and promoting joint investment projects. Trade and economic cooperation will be facilitated by pairing our country's development strategy with the One Belt, One Road initiative of the Chinese side," he said.

The president noted with satisfaction the start of work on the Bypass Chui Channel - 2 project, which is important for providing irrigation water to a vast region of Kyrgyzstan. This project will allow a more economical and efficient use of available water resources to ensure food security, as well as address issues of increasing the level of socio-economic development of Chui Oblast.

He also drew attention to the issue of implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad project, which is an important national project for the country. The Kyrgyz leader proposed to sign a relevant document during the September summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand.

The president pointed out that Kyrgyzstan intends to continue fruitful cooperation in all international platforms, including the UN, the World Health Organization, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, and others.

In turn, the Chinese foreign minister thanked for the warm welcome and conveyed best wishes and words of greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Wang Yi noted that the meeting of the two countries' leaders in February this year gave a strong impetus to the development of bilateral relations and comprehensive strategic partnership.

Regarding the implementation of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad project, he noted that the Chinese side is ready to conduct a feasibility study with the participation of the three parties.

"Thus, the process of implementing this project has already started. Given the willingness of both the Kyrgyz and Uzbek sides, we are ready to explore the possibility of concluding a trilateral document on this project at the upcoming summit in Samarkand in September," Wang Yi added.
