Bishkek, April 7, 2021 . / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov made an address to Kyrgyz people on the occasion of another anniversary of the People's April Revolution, his press service said on Wednesday.
In his address, the Kyrgyz leader noted that this year celebrates the 11th anniversary of the April Revolution.
He said that on this day, the people of Kyrgyzstan were able to show the world that they are an active participant in the historical process and a true source of power.
"The April events resulted in irreparable loss of life and victims. They will be remembered as such in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan," Zhaparov stressed.
He added that the April Revolution happened because the March Revolution failed to achieve its goals.
The Kyrgyz people lost many of its glorious sons in the April events.
"No matter how much time has passed, grief for the dead will forever remain in our hearts, the shining image of our heroes will live with us forever.
The president of Kyrgyzstan emphasized that the main result of the April Revolution was the choice of a democratic path in the development of the country.
"May there be peace and prosperity in our country!" Zhaparov concluded his address.
The Day of the People's April Revolution is a national holiday in Kyrgyzstan that commemorates the Kyrgyz Revolution of 2010.
On April 6th 2010, civil unrest broke out in the town of Talas after a demonstration against government corruption and increased living expenses.
On April 7th 2010, the unrest had spread and mass anti-government protests in Bishkek turned violent, with over 84 people being killed and many hundreds injured in clashes with security forces.
A transition government took control and Bakiev fled the country soon afterwards.
The day has been a public holiday since 2016.
