Bishkek, July 19, 2024 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov made a statement to the media following his talks with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The Kyrgyz leader noted that for centuries Kyrgyz and Uzbeks have been fraternal nations, which are linked by friendly and kinship relations.
Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that due to joint efforts, bilateral relations have been brought to a completely new level - the level of comprehensive strategic partnership in a relatively short period of time.
He also noted that today's talks were traditionally held in a friendly, warm atmosphere, in a businesslike and constructive manner. A wide range of political, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian issues were discussed in detail.
Zhaparov emphasized that the key outcome of today's talks was the signing of the Joint Statement on further deepening and expansion of relations of comprehensive strategic partnership.
The parties aim to bring the bilateral trade turnover up to USD 2 billion and are ready to make all necessary efforts for this purpose.
Sadyr Zhaparov spoke about the successful Kyrgyz-Uzbek business forum held the previous day, which was chaired by deputy prime ministers and attended by representatives of business communities of the two countries.
The sides agreed to open Trade Houses in Bishkek and Tashkent, the capital cities of the two countries on a reciprocal basis. In addition, in order to create favorable conditions for intensifying interaction between the regions of the countries in various spheres of activity, they agreed to strengthen the work within the Council of Heads of Border Regions under the patronage of heads of government. The next meeting of the Council is expected to be held in Uzbekistan in the near future.
An agreement was reached to work together on the implementation of the projects for the construction of Kambarata HPP-1, as well as HPP on the Chatkal River.
At the same time, the need was noted to start practical work on the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad as soon as possible, which is of strategic importance for strengthening the transport interconnectedness of thw countries and the development of the entire region.
President Zhaparov added that the sides also agreed to take measures to expand cooperation in such spheres as culture, education, science, sports and tourism.
In conclusion, the Kyrgyz president emphasized that during the talks there was an in-depth exchange of views on topical issues of regional and international agenda.
The parties noted the commitment to consolidate efforts in preserving stability and security in the region and beyond.
