Bishkek, Oct. 27, 2020. / Kabar /. Presidential candidates in Kyrgyzstan must submit all documents by Dec. 6 inclusive, Abdyzhapar Bekmatov, deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan told Kabar Agency.
He explained that due to the fact that this is an early presidential election, the terms have been reduced by a quarter.
“There are two ways of nominating a candidate: when a citizen himself nominates his candidacy or a party,” he said.
Bekmatov explained that the next day after the date of the elections is determined, the period for nominating candidates begins, and in the nomination process will last until Nov. 14 inclusive.
“Election campaigning will begin on Dec. 15,” Bekmatov said and added that the candidates must collect more than 30 thousand and less than 60 thousand signatures of voters in their support.
The requirements for presidential candidates remain the same, that is, the candidate need to be a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, not have citizenship of another country, not have a criminal record, to be not younger than 35 years old and not older than 70 years.
In addition, the CEC explained that state and municipal employees, except for the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh and local councils, must suspend their activities from the moment they are nominated.
The early presidential elections will be held on Jan. 10, 2021. Sooronbay Jeenbekov prematurely left the post of President of the country on Oct. 15, 2020.
