Presidents of Central Asian countries discuss water resources and rescue of Aral Sea

Turkmenbashi, Aug. 24, 2018 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov as an honored guest is taking part in the Summit of the heads of states - founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in the Turkmen city of Turkmenbashi.

Presidents of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev take part in the meeting.

It is expected that at the summit Jeenbekov will declare Kyrgyzstan's position on the activities of the Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and its bodies.

Earlier, head of the foreign policy department of the President’s Office Daniyar Sydykov explained that Kyrgyzstan "froze" its participation in the activities of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in connection with the need for its reform.

"Kyrgyzstan is ready to resume its full-fledged participation in the activities of the Fund for Saving the Aral Sea after carrying out its appropriate reform," Sydykov said then.

The President of Kyrgyzstan arrived in Turkmenistan for a state visit the day before, where he held a bilateral meeting with Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in narrow and enlarged formats, and 11 agreements were signed following the meeting. The main political document was the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
