Bishkek, Aug. 23, 2018. / Kabar /. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov is paying a state visit to Turkmenistan, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reported.
After talks in a narrow and enlarged formats, the two leaders Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow made a joint statement for media representatives.
Sooronbai Jeenbekov expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan and the entire Turkmen people for their warm welcome and hospitality.
"This is my first visit to Turkmenistan. Today we discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations and determined the directions of our further cooperation. We signed the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Kyrgyz Republic and Turkmenistan. This is a historic event in bilateral relations and will open a new page in the history of friendship and cooperation between our countries," President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
He stressed that during the meetings both sides highly assessed the current level of bilateral cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted the constructive and informative nature of the talks that took place in the traditional atmosphere of mutual trust and openness between the two countries.
"Today's talks have confirmed our common attitude to strengthen Kyrgyz-Turkmen relations and develop them in all areas. We intend to raise even higher the level of our cooperation in all areas - in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres," Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
He noted that during the talks, special attention was paid to partnership in the trade and economic sphere, the need to increase mutual trade turnover.
In this issue, an important role is assigned to the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Turkmen Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation, which after a two-year break resumed its work in July this year in Ashgabat. The joint trade and investment session was held for the first time.
"Priority directions of our cooperation are transport sphere, expansion of opportunities for using transport and transit potential, mutual exchange of agricultural and industrial products, as well as interaction at the level of the regions of the two countries," said Sooronbay Jeenbekov. "During the talks, a common agreement was reached on further development and promotion of cultural, humanitarian, educational and sport ties between the two countries."
He noted that a large package of important bilateral documents had been signed following the results of today's meetings.
"Turkmenistan is our important and reliable partner. In 2017, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Our relations with Turkmenistan are developing dynamically on the basis of the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutually beneficial cooperation. This is in line with the long-term interests of the two countries and peoples," Sooronbay Jeenbekov emphasized and particularly noted the personal merit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed gratitude to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his contribution to the development of fraternal ties between the two countries and invited him to visit Kyrgyzstan on a return visit.
President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, on behalf of the entire Kyrgyz people, wished the fraternal Turkmen people peace, prosperity and progress.
